How do I know how much my gold is worth?
You can estimate the value of your materials by determining the weight of the material and the Karat value of the gold. A karat refers to the purity of the gold used. 24 Karat gold is 99.99% pure gold. Typically jewelry is labeled with the purity of the gold used.

How to test
If your materials are not hallmarked, there are many Scientific methods to determine the purity of your gold & some do it at home methods.
- Rub you materials across a piece of unglazed porcelain. If this creates a black streak, your materials are not real gold, they are made of pyrite. If the streak is gold, your materials are made from real gold.
- Hold a magnet above your gold material. If it is attracted to the magnet, your materials are not pure gold, as gold is not magnetic.

Misconceptions
There are many misconceptions surrounding the cash for gold industry. One popular misconception is that you will receive the same amount for you jewelry that you paid in the store.
